Privacy Policy

YouKnowBall ("we", "us") runs youknowballtrivia.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site and how it is used. The short version: you don't need an account or your real name to play. We keep your game results so we can score them fairly and save your streaks, and you choose whether to add a nickname or an email address.
Your game data
The first time you play, we create an anonymous player for you, identified by a random ID. Your browser stores a secret sign-in token for that player in its local storage, along with a copy of your recent results so the site loads quickly.
On our servers we store, for each player: your answers, scores, answer times, streaks and badges for each daily puzzle, plus aggregated statistics (such as the percentage of players who answered a question correctly). Questions are scored on our servers so results are fair.
Nicknames and leaderboards
You can choose a nickname. If you do, it appears on public leaderboards and in any friend leagues you join, next to your scores and streaks. Players without a nickname are counted in rankings but shown as "Anonymous". Don't use your real name or anything that identifies you as a nickname. If you create or join a friend league, other members can see your nickname and results in that league.
Email sign-in (optional)
You can add an email address to save your streaks and sign in on other devices. We use it only to send you one-time sign-in links and to link your devices to the same player. We don't send marketing email unless you separately sign up for it. Sign-in emails are delivered by our email provider, Resend, which processes your address to send them.
Alpha and beta testers
If you join with an invite code, we record which testing phase you joined (alpha or beta). When you send feedback or flag a question, we store your ratings, comments, the reason and note for any flag, which question and sport it was about, the date, and the type of device and browser you used (for example "iPhone, Safari"), so we can fix problems. This is linked to your anonymous player ID and nickname if you've set one, never to your real name.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your game data while your player account is in use. To delete your player, nickname, email and results, email us at the address below from the email on your account (or tell us your nickname), and we'll delete them. Clearing your browser's site data signs that browser out; if you haven't added an email, your old results can't be recovered after that.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited and the time of your visit. We use this to keep the site running, secure and fast.
If we use analytics to understand how many people play and which features are popular, we'll use aggregated statistics and won't use them to identify you personally.

We use Google AdSense to show ads, which helps keep YouKnowBall free.

Third-party services
To work properly, the site loads some content from other providers. Those providers may receive your IP address and basic browser information when you visit:
- ESPN: live scores and team logos in the scores ticker.
- Google Fonts: the site's typefaces.
- Google AdSense: advertising, as described above.
- Cloudflare: hosts the site and the game servers and database.
- Resend: delivers sign-in emails, if you add an email address.
Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy.
Sharing your results
When you tap "Share result", your score card is copied to your clipboard or opened in your device's share menu. Nothing is sent to us. Where you share it is up to you.
Children
YouKnowBall is a general-audience site and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, UK or California), you may have rights to access, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. To exercise these rights, use the ad settings links above or contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
